Addiction, as the name suggests is a habit of something. It could be of food, newspapers, drugs/alcohol, etc. It is a general notion that ‘if we need to get rid of something we need to reduce its use or habit’. Addicted to things like newspaper reading in the morning or having bed tea do not cause much harm to the body. On the other hand, if a person is addicted to alcohol or some kind of drugs he/she is very much likely to damage his body as well as life. If your beloved one is also a victim of alcohol or drug abuse, you need to support him to recover from this addiction and in that, Our Austin Alcohol Rehab can help you. Drugs and alcohol consumption can you to the death bed.

Let us understand why and how?

What is alcoholism and drug abuse?

Today we can see many youngsters or even adults who are so much consumed by substance abuse. Substance abuse includes addiction to alcohol, drugs, and other chemical products. These types of things have a direct effect on the human body and mind. It is rightly said; excess of everything is bad and if the amount of alcohol and drugs are consumed it can even lead to death. Alcohol lowers anxiety and inhibitions if taken in controlled amounts but can also lead to loss of coordination and slurred speech if taken in more amounts. Drugs on the other hand have side effects like reduced memory, not able to think properly, insomnia, etc. Alcohol mixed with other drugs can prove lethal.

In order to get rid of this addiction one certainly needs to reduce the consumption of drugs and alcohol. However, sometimes the situation worsens so much that it is not in the patient’s hand to control it. Here comes the term, Alcohol rehab Centre and Drug Detox Centre. Rehab centres are places which help you in recovering from substance abuse.

What is a rehab/detox centre?

There are many people who find it difficult to quit without the help of others. For such people many organisations and support groups are set up to get the help they need. Rehab centres are generally residential areas provided to people who need medical help in order to get rid of their addiction.

Types of rehab

  • Outpatient treatment. In this kind of treatment there is no need for a patient to reside in a rehab centre he can visit regularly to get help from professionals.
  • Inpatient treatment. Patients reside inside the premises of rehab centres for about one month (or as required) and get highly extensive care.
  • Recovery housing. Patients live in a temporary, supervised house and participate in treatment programmes.
  • Residential treatment. Here patients get extensive medical care in a non-hospital kind of structure.

Now let us have a look at how exactly patients are treated at a rehab and drug detox centre.

The type of treatment you get depends on your condition and symptoms. If a person tries to reduce alcohol or drug use at home it could be dangerous as immediate withdrawal may not suit everybody’s body. Detox is the process which comes in here. It is not right to think of detox as a treatment alone, it can be considered as the first step towards healing.

Detoxification

Detoxification is the process of letting the body remove the drugs in it. When a regular drinker stops drinking for more than 6-8 hours he may experience withdrawal symptoms which include the following-

  • Shakiness
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Sweating
  • Nausea and vomiting

During detox the patient is given medicines to ease the above symptoms. A medical detox is said to prevent discomfort during alcohol withdrawals.  The medical process of detoxification includes-

  • Evaluation
  • Stabilisation
  • Preparing entry into treatment

Many facilities like a homely environment, proper medication and food, spa treatments, and unique therapy are provided. Since all this cannot be easily provided at home it is always recommended to get an addicted person treated at a good rehab centre.
