Haverford College is a leading liberal arts undergraduate college located outside Philadelphia that is known for its academic rigour, Honour Code, and beautiful arboretum campus.  Haverford has a longstanding commitment to diversity rooted in values of inclusion and social justice, a commitment reflected in the curriculum, classrooms, and communal composition of the College. Haverford welcomes applications from candidates who share these values and who will foster their contribution to the College’s mission.

Haverford College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor in the interdisciplinary field of Health Studies, to begin in Autumn 2017. A PhD in a relevant academic discipline and an MPH or equivalent degree are required. The successful candidate must show excellence and strong active engagement both in health-focused scholarship and in teaching courses at all levels of the Health Studies curriculum. The primary teaching responsibilities include the gateway and capstone courses for the Health Studies minor but additional courses offered must be integral to the Health Studies programme and possibly acceptable as electives for other programmes or department. While the primary responsibilities for this position lie in Health Studies, an appointment in one of the College’s academic departments is not precluded. Training in any appropriate academic discipline is acceptable, with some preference for those with expertise in health policy, medical sociology or anthropology, or public health.

The successful candidate will be expected to anchor and develop the multidisciplinary Bi-College Health Studies minor (at Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges) by establishing productive collaborations with faculty across all three academic divisions and across the two campuses, mentoring students whose majors are in a broad array of departments, and administering an academic programme that intersects with multiple programmes on campus, including the Centre for Peace and Global Citizenship, the Hurford Centre for Arts and Humanities and the Koshland Integrated Natural Science Centre.  We are particularly interested in candidates who have strong professional networks and scholarly interests within public and global health, are active in community-based health programmes, contribute to public discourse about the changing landscape of health, and engage undergraduate students in this work.

Members of the Search Committee will be onsite at APHA Public Health CareerMart in the Expo Hall, Booth 2100 on 31 October, 2:30-5:30 pm and 01 November, 12:30-4:00 pm.

Applicants are requested to submit a cover letter, CV, a writing sample, a list of three possible courses with short descriptions and arrange to have three confidential letters of recommendation submitted via Interfolio.  Questions about the application process should be directed to Georgia Davidis Malone, Faculty Dossier Coordinator, at gdavidisma@haverford.edu. For technical questions, please contact Interfolio directly at 877-997-8807 or help@interfolio.com. To receive full consideration, all application materials must be received in electronic form by  15 October 2016.
