Joel Petch is a senior lecturer in mental health biosciences at Kent and Medway Medical School. Joel has clinical experience within acute mental health services – having previously worked clinically within Psychiatric Intensive Care and Liaison Psychiatry. 

As well as being a senior lecturer, Joel is a neuroscientist and an academic. His interests are wide-ranging and include the symbiotic relationship between physical and mental ill-health, psychoneuroimmunology (specifically autoimmune encephalitides) and psychopharmacology. In addition, Joel has a growing interest in religiosity and the putative pathoplastic effects within belief formation.

Within his current research, Joel is exploring ‘neuromyths’ associated with learning and teaching, as well as reviewing the pathophysiology of delirium.

Joel is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) following completion of the Post Graduate Certificate of Academic Practice (PGCAP). Joel also holds teacher status with the NMC, and is a member of the British Association for Psychopharmacology (BAP). Joel can often be found Tweeting of most things neuro @joelpetch
